about

Pretty much the story behind the soon to be Hip Hop Classic EP "AFRICA's BOOMBOXX" was a accidential destiny. Mercy was looking for some Madlib instrumentals which he been asking around for a long time. Meanwhile, Mercy received a email from a producer name Al Jazz, who had a Madlib beat tape and told me Merc' he also makes beats. So Merc' asked him to email some tracks and to checkout his myspace in the meantime. Jazz returned back shortly after with a beat tape called "Hidden Keyboard" which quickly captured Mercy's attention. Al Jazz told Mercy how he liked some of his songs and wanted to work with him. However, what was more surprising is that Al Jazz is from Africa, Mozambique (Maputo City is his hometown) Who's been highly inspired by legendary beatsmiths such as J Dilla (RIP), Pete Rock, DJ Premier, etc. Making Mercy the first American MC to work with him. For days - They were going back and forth, bouncing ideas and came up with a sound they liked. They wanted to keep it Hip Hop but new and refreshing at the same time. They devoted to create music that they enjoyed. Mercy came up with the concept of the EP based on their love of Hip Hop and Music. A Boombox fit the script perfectly and its vintage sound. The project is setup to showcase two individuals from totally didn't continents of there musical aspirations.
